Adjusting to Learning and Teaching in the UK

Methods of teaching and assessment in the UK may be quite different from what you are used to in your home country. This academic session will help you understand your new learning environment, what’s expected of you and how to get the most out of your studies in the UK.

Working during and after your studies

This session will provide guidance about working whilst studying and introduce you to the range of opportunities available after you graduate. This session will include specific visa and immigration information which may not be relevant to students coming on a short term student visitor visa.

Safety and security in the UK

Do you know which phone number to call in an emergency, or where to go if you're very unwell over a weekend? This session will equip you with knowledge and tips for best practice to keep you safe and ensure you know what to do in case of an emergency.

Improve employability: the Kingston award and KU ambassador scheme

Learn about how you can be a part of our team of 300 student ambassadors who support the University by working at student recruitment open days and outreach activities with schools and colleges. You will also learn about the Kingston Award: a points-based award which recognises and celebrates your engagement in university life, alongside all of the academic work you’ve done on your course.

Introduction to Healthcare in the UK

This session aims to give you a brief overview of the UK's National Health Service (NHS). You will find out about your entitlements, and what you must do if you need medical treatment.

Postgraduate work placements

These sessions will cover the frequently asked questions for students who have applied for our new 12-month postgraduate work placement degrees, including: when will students do the placement, what is the deadline to find the placement, what are the responsibilities of the student and university, when and where should students look for the placement, and what career support sessions will be on offer in the coming months.

Tier 4 visas - monitoring and support**

Monitoring, police registrations, Biometric Residence Permits - what does it all mean and what do you need to know. If you're on a Tier 4 visa, this session will give you an overview of everything you need to know.

Q&A panel with current students

This is your opportunity to meet current students and ask as many questions as you like! The session is an informal open discussion amongst new and current Kingston students.

Make the most of Kingston while spending the least

With so many things to see and do in London, how do you fit them all in and more importantly… How do you get the best deals! Get some financial hints and tips from our Money Advisors as well as learning about the support services available at Kingston University.

Kingston tours

Be shown around Kingston by our student ambassadors, who will point out the locations of the post office, leisure facilities, local landmarks, places to eat and shops selling everything you need!

**Only applicable to students on Tier 4 visa

What to wear: Casual clothing and comfortable shoes for the tours.

What to bring:You may want to bring a notepad and pen for the information sessions.

Please Note: Your Enrolment slot takes priority. You must attend the allocated slot. It is essential that you collect your BRP documents before enrolment on Thursday and Friday. We are running escorted trips to the post office, leaving from the Arrivals Lounge so if you decide to book the morning orientation session, we suggest you sign up for the BRP collection in the afternoon and vice versa.
